The almost identical ensemble to this one was recently featured in the exhibit Yves Saint Laurent + Halston: Fashioning the 70s and is featured in the accompanying book for the exhibit giving us a firm date and making it well documented

In the back the volume begins from the panel that runs across the shoulder so has even more volume

The front is gathered in all along the upper edge of the waist band and the entire bodice is draped with sleeves that are cut out from the waist to give it a draped caftan feel

The outer layer is fantastic with huge angled sleeves that drape almost to the ground and a angled hem that dips lower on each side

I love the gathered neckline detail and pretty orange piping

The base is a black wool cut into a duster coat silhouette. The lines are long to just past the knee and the collar is cut high and round. The embroidery covers the entire surface of the jacket in the prettiest pastel hues that vary from a light lavender to a soft coral. Even the buttons that run down the front are embroidered. I believe the embroidery work to be machine done
